Sophie, an Omega, cut ties with her family five years ago to bond with Alpha Marcus Kane. In five years of marriage, Marcus gave all his tenderness to Amelia — his fallen brother's widow. He ate dinner at her den every night. He slept on the floor beside her bed. He went to every prenatal appointment. Sophie was nearly nine months pregnant, and he thought she was five or six months along. The day Sophie went into complicated labor, the nurses called seven times. Marcus said she couldn't possibly be in labor — she was only five or six months pregnant — and stayed outside Amelia's delivery room. Sophie signed the surgical consent form. She also signed a Mate bond severance petition. Her parents arrived, transferred her to another city. When Marcus finally learned the truth, he rushed to find her — only to be blocked by Sophie's parents. "Now that the other she-wolf safely delivered, suddenly you remember you have a Mate?" The Elder Council formally severed their bond. Sophie signed, turned around, and walked into the sunlight without looking back.
